Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 1 orange, cut into ¼-inch slices
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
  • Brandy or rum (optional)
  • Cinnamon sticks and orange slices for garnish

Instructions

  • Place the apple cider, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice berries in a crockpot.
  • Cook on low heat for 4 hours. Strain the cider and pour it into individual cups. If desired, you can add a splash (or two!) of brandy or rum. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and orange slices. Serve hot.
  • To make this mulled cider on the stove, place all ingredients in a large stockpot. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain and serve.

Notes

You can put bottles of brandy or rum next to the crock pot for your guests to spike their hot cider with.
To make it easier to strain out the spices, you can place them in a piece of cheesecloth and tie it up into a sachet with kitchen twine. Then, simply remove it before serving.
