Welcome to my site- I hope you’re hungry! My name is Sonali- I’m a board certified Emergency Medicine physician, trained chef, mom, recipe developer, and cookbook author. I am a lifelong New Yorker who recently relocated to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I developed an interest in cooking when I was doing my residency training in Emergency Medicine in New York City. After several years of experimenting in my kitchen and competing in cooking competitions, I decided to take my passion one step further and enrolled in culinary school. While I was a student, I started this blog where I use my medical and culinary backgrounds to help readers create meals that are nutritious and full of flavor.
After treating patients with chronic diseases in the Emergency Room every day for many years, I developed an interest in the role that food and diet can play in preventing disease. Instead of simply writing a prescription, I started counseling my patients on ways they could take control of their health through dietary and lifestyle changes. I believe that food, medicine, health, and wellness are all integrally related. Despite our fascination with diets, diet products, and weight loss, we as a society, are getting heavier and unhealthier with rates of obesity and obesity-related conditions continually on the rise. Of particular concern is that we’re seeing these conditions in younger and younger people and even children. More than 1/3 of American children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Following a well-balanced, nutritious diet full of whole foods and leading an active, balanced, and fulfilling lifestyle can help prevent many conditions like obesity, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease and put you on the path to lifelong good health. You can take control over your own health and well-being. It’s important to know what you’re eating and how to prepare high-quality meals so that you can make smart food choices all day long.

She is a frequent guest on both national television like The Dr. Oz Show as well as the local South Florida news where she does regular healthy cooking segments. She is the founder of The Foodie Physician website and the author of several cookbooks including the Natural Pregnancy Cookbook and Natural Baby Food.
