I'm always looking for ways to make indulgent snacks a little bit healthier. These easy air fryer pasta chips may just become your new favorite snack! They have fewer calories and are a better option than traditional potato chips, thanks to the air fryer, which uses a lot less oil than deep frying. If you're looking for a sweet snack, try my air fryer apple chips.
Plus, pasta is an excellent source of carbohydrates and provides sustained energy throughout the day. You'll get even more nutrients if you use whole grain pasta to incorporate some healthy whole grains into the dish.

Ingredients
Ingredient notes and substitutions:
- Pasta- the best pasta shape to use is either farfalle (bow tie) pasta or penne, however you can use other pasta shapes like rigatoni. Something you can easily pick up with your fingers is ideal. You can use gluten-free pasta if needed.
- Olive oil- you just need a little bit of olive oil to coat the pasta- the air fryer uses less oil
- Parmesan cheese- adds a ton of flavor to the chips; you can substitute nutritional yeast or my 4-ingredient dairy-free parmesan cheese
- Seasonings- I use garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt but you can use other spices like onion powder, paprika or cayenne pepper for a bit of heat

How To Make Air Fryer Pasta Chips Step-By-Step
See recipe card below for full recipe instructions.
- Step 1- Boil the pasta in a large pot of salted water until al dente. Drain pasta but do not rinse it with water.
- Step 2- Transfer the pasta to a large mixing bowl and add the olive oil, parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt and stir it all together.
- Step 3- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. Working in batches, arrange a single layer of the seasoned pasta in the bottom of the basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the pasta chips in multiple baskets.
- Step 4- Cook 8-10 minutes until pasta is golden brown and crunchy. Toss the pasta with tongs once or twice during cooking (the pasta may stick a little to the basket).
Serve pasta chips with your favorite dipping sauce like marinara sauce or Ranch dressing.
Best Air Fryer
Looking for an air fryer? I love the Ninja Max XL 5.5 quart Air Fryer. The large basket is perfect for a family of four.
Chef's Tips
- Cook pasta just until al dente since it will continue cooking in the air fryer.
- Preheat the air fryer for best results.
- While typically you can just shake food in the air fryer basket, with these pasta chips, you need to toss them with tongs to get any pieces sticking to the bottom of the basket.
- Cook the pasta chips in batches and avoid overcrowding the basket so that they cook evenly.
- Don't overcook the pasta chips, remove them before they get too brown. They will crisp up as they cool.
- Vary the seasoning on the chips as you like- some good options are onion powder, paprika or cayenne pepper.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, if you don't have an air fryer, you can bake these pasta chips in a regular oven but they won’t get as crispy. Bake them on a baking sheet in the oven on the convection setting at 400°F for 20-22 minutes.
I recommend farfalle (bow ties) or penne pasta for these pasta chips.
They are best enjoyed right away but you can store leftover pasta chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
